Hurricane Earl Weakens
Hurricane Earl weakens to a Category Two storm as it lashes the Outer Banks. Wind gusts are expected to reach hurricane strength or higher overnight before the storm moves up the Atlantic coast. FEMA is setting up headquarters at Fort Bragg and the National Guard has deployed 80 troops. The DOT and Highway Patrol are also being placed on stanby.

Friday: Increasing clouds and warm. High: 87-Asheville, 96-Upstate.
Friday night: Partly cloudy, slight rain chance. Low: 57-Asheville, 64-Upstate.
