A proposed apartment complex for West Asheville gets the thumbs-down from City Council and neighbors are happy about it. Council members voted against the 92-unit White Oak Grove, deciding it would be too large for the proposed six-and-a-half acre site at intersection of Hazel Mill and Clayton Roads. Residents say the area is too busy for any additional traffic. They say a smaller version of the project likely wouldn't work either. The developer says he'll rework the numbers and try to come back to City Council and staff with a smaller project more acceptable to neighbors. But with current zoning that would be only 56-units.
