Top Stories - CTS Cleanup Plan

A newly discovered contaminated well near the old C.T.S. site has concerned citizens meeting tonight.  The public meeting at the Skyland Fire Dept. begins at 6:45.  The well is located at a rental home on 5 Forest Run Drive.  The discovery comes shortly after the E.P.A. announced it will work together with C.T.S. to clean up the contaminated site of the demolished plant in South Asheville.  In the announcement, the agency calls for more testing of groundwater near the site.  It also mentions C.T.S.'s request to provide full home water filtration systems to homes within a mile of the site.

Concerned citizens who live in the affected area like Tate McQueen, are skeptical, saying the E.P.A. has dragged it's feet for decades on what should have been an 8 month cleanup of contaminated water.  A representative from Sen. Burr's office is expected to attend.  E.P.A. officials declined the invitation.
